As the year draws to a close, as is typical for me, I become very reflective.
It has been my experience that every year, no matter how challenging it may have been, there is always a gem of self-discovery we can take from it. 2024 will be the year I discovered the power of doing the opposite.
Let me explain......
I want to say it was a stroke of genius, but that would be a fib; it was born out of frustration, but one day in March, after I had been following some "expert" advice on the perfect diet to lose weight and still weighing the same, I decided to take everything he said and do the opposite, the result rapid weight loss.
Following that, I found some online influencers harping on about how we should be posting 5 plus times a day on every social media platform. I decided to post only once a day and only on TikTok, resulting in more interaction and more good leads.
The advice to run regularly to get fitter for my hill walking was ignored, and instead, I stopped running, lifted weights and walked once a week. The result was that my walking got stronger.
Get 8 hours of sleep; nope, I tried 6 and was more awake, had better focus and was in a better mood.
These are just a few things I tried; there were many more, but you should get the point.
There is some good advice out there, but if you try it and it doesn't work, it's not a bad idea to try doing the opposite and see what result that gets you.
A small caveat before I go: some advice should be followed precisely; I found that Leeds City Council didn't take too kindly to me ignoring the "don't drive in the bus lane" advice and doing the opposite; that little experiment resulted in Booty being £60 quid worse off.
Take care
