Keep Learning

I'll be honest: I didn't like school; sitting in a classroom, being taught stuff I had little to no interest in, and counting down the minutes until I could escape was not my thing. I left school with no qualifications and a disdain for education and learning.

But one day in the early 90's, that changed.

I was wandering around a bookshop in

Glasgow and stumbled across a section called "Self-Help." One book stood out in that section, mainly because there was a picture of the author on the front. He had the bid cheesy smile, the whitest teeth I had ever seen and a slick late-80s haircut. The author was Tony Robbins, and the book was "Awaken the Giant Within." It came home with me, and for the first time in my life, I read a book from cover to cover. From that day, I was hooked on personal development, and my love of learning began.

Suddenly, learning wasn't about passing exams; it was about getting better, pushing forward, and actually using what I was learning to improve my life. Since then, I've never stopped. Books, courses, mentors, coaches, if they help me grow, I'm in.

And before you roll your eyes and think, "Yeah, yeah, lifelong learning, heard it all before," let me tell you, if you're not actively learning, you're falling behind. The world moves fast, and if you're still running on knowledge from ten years ago, you're basically walking around with a Nokia 3310 in an iPhone world.

Want to make learning a habit? Here are three simple things that work for me that anyone can do:

Read Every Day – Even if it's just ten pages, it compounds over time. And no, listening to books does not count.

Find Smarter People – Get around people who know more than you do. Ask questions. Shut up and listen. You were given two ears and one mouth for a reason.

Apply What You Learn – Knowledge without action is useless. If you read something that could help you, use it.

Since the 90s, I've spent a lot of money and time on learning and educating myself, and no one will ever be able to convince me that a penny or minute of that was wasted. And I will never stop.

Becoming a lifelong learner; in this game we call life is a smart move. The second you think you know it all, you've already lost.
