Letting things go

I have been writing a regular weekly blog for almost 6 years. In that time, I have clocked up close to 300 posts and over 200,000 words. For a lad told by my English teacher at school my use of the written word was rubbish, I think that's a decent achievement. I'm sure Miss Cook would agree.

It has allowed me to explore my head, share some hopefully helpful and, at times, funny stuff, and my writing is much better for doing them. But in recent months, I have become tired of blogging; it's become a chore and, quite honestly, a distraction and the readership has dropped off.

Now, I could put this down to them being pants, but reading what other people who write blogs say online, it has less to do with my writing and more to do with blogs in general. The popularity of them is just plummeting. How people like to consume content has changed, written stuff is out of favour and videos and podcasts are the new kids in town.

Luckily, I also have a podcast. That is now at episode 342, and unlike the blog, the listenership is increasing and has been for a while. But more importantly, they are effortless to produce, and I love doing them. Even more importantly, I get coaching enquiries from them, and at the end of the day, I am a coach, not a content creator, a fact I sometimes forget.

So, what does this have to do with you?

Well, this blog is really about letting things go.

Everything has its time, and holding on to things for too long always leads to some upset, unhappiness or frustration.

One thing I encourage my clients to do is let go of things that don't serve them anymore. What I mean by that is things, practices and people that don't make them happy or take them closer to their goals.

There is no shame in saying something has run its course or it's not working for you. People let their egos run the show and just keep doing things out of stubbornness and refuse to see the writing on the wall.

Well, the writing I see on my wall is that blogs are dying, and blogging is not helping me get more clients.

So, I am taking some of my own advice and letting the blog go. I'm not killing it completely; it's more like letting it have a bit of an extended holiday. It can sit on a beach, drinking mojitos and frolicking in the sun.

Will it return? I'm not sure, maybe it will send a postcard, and I will share that here. Or perhaps it will start running a nightclub in Magaluf and never be seen again; either way, it's all good.

Right, it's time to clear the throat and get some makeup on; I've got some podcasts and videos to record.

Take Care
