You Can Change.

That was the milestone I hit on my sobriety journey at 5 pm on July 20th this year.

On that day in 2014, I was a gibbering mess, sitting in stinking clothes covered in vomit; I thought I was on my way out.

But at 5 pm on that Sunday in July 10 years ago, I had a moment of clarity and made a decision, and that decision was there was no way I was letting the bottle beat me; it was time to fight back.

The first thing I had to do was to accept where I was. The truth was I had put myself in that position, and I was the only person who could get me out of it. That ownership of my stuff was liberating and the starting point for where I am today.

The last ten years have changed me in ways I would never have imagined and brought me to a stage where I am healthier mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually than at any point in my adult life.

Now, the purpose of this blog is not to promote myself as some star with super levels of willpower and focus or to get a load of kudos and people telling me how well I have done. I am proud of myself, and that is enough.

The purpose of This blog is to remind anyone who needs to hear it that you can improve your life if you're unhappy with how it is right now.

All it takes to turn your life around is a heartfelt decision to change; you can make that change at any point. Then, go about doing anything it takes to make those changes happen.

No matter how low you feel or how challenging things may seem, if you're still breathing, you can turn it around. I am proof of that, and I am nothing special.

We all have the power to change—it's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. It's just that sometimes we forget that. This blog may be a reminder some of you may need to accept that fact.

I came up with a quote I frequently use that I believe gets across what this blog post is all about in one sentence, so I will share it for you to ponder:-

"You are 100% responsible for where you are in life right now, and if you're not happy with it, you are 100% capable of changing it for the better."
